{"id":159,"date":"2013-10-19T19:10:46","date_gmt":"2013-10-19T19:10:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jessgramp.net\/recipes\/?p=159"},"modified":"2023-02-09T00:34:57","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T00:34:57","slug":"french-onion-soup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jessgramp.com\/recipes\/french-onion-soup\/","title":{"rendered":"French Onion Soup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Delicious French classic served with cheesy bread.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>INGREDIENTS<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>500g brown onions, sliced thinly<\/li>\n<li>2 tablespoons butter<\/li>\n<li>olive oil<\/li>\n<li>pinch sugar<\/li>\n<li>1.5 litres beef stock (use 2 stock cubes)<\/li>\n<li>1 cup white wine<\/li>\n<li>1-2 tablespoons Sherry vinegar<\/li>\n<li>french stick or other bread<\/li>\n<li>1-2 garlic cloves<\/li>\n<li>Salt and pepper<\/li>\n<li>Gruyere cheese is best (otherwise any cheese you can find)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>METHOD<\/p>\n<p>Brown the onion in the butter and a bit of oil for 30 minutes. Add a pinch of sugar to help them caramelise. Add the flour and stir for 3 minutes. Add the stock and wine. Cover and simmer for 45 minutes.\u00a0 Prepare the bread by rubbing in garlic, then crushing \/ chopping the remaining amount and sprinkling on top. Toast lightly in oven or grill and then remove.<\/p>\n<p>Season the soup with salt and pepper when done. Serve into bowls.
